Thought is the Coin of Heaven

You may labor long hours, you may plan with care, you may do what the world calls everything right—yet still the harvest you long for does not appear. The reason is simple, and it is absolute: you have been spending the only currency that truly purchases your world. Thought is the coin of heaven. Money is merely its earthly symbol. Every moment of your life you are either investing this divine currency or squandering it. There is no third choice. The present moment does not slip backward into yesterday and vanish; it advances straight into your future, carrying with it exactly what you have invested—or what you have wasted.

Listen closely. On the morning of one ordinary day a great voice of authority spoke within my wife and said, “You must stop spending your thoughts, time, and money. Everything in life must be an investment.” That revelation is for you as surely as it was for her. To spend is to waste, to scatter without return. To invest is to place your treasure where it must bear fruit according to its own nature. And the treasure you place is thought—your inner speech, your secret conversation with yourself.

Right now, this very instant, you are speaking within yourself. You are telling yourself who you are, what you can have, what the world is like. That inner talking is never idle. It is the word that goes forth and does not return void. It molds tomorrow’s facts before the sun rises. The circumstances that surround you today are nothing but the visible echo of the words you have been speaking silently within yourself. They are the muffled utterance of your inner conversation made flesh. Change the conversation and the echo changes. It cannot do otherwise.

You choose life and good and blessing simply by being that which you choose. Like is known to like alone. Therefore make your inner speech bless and give good reports. Whenever you feel misunderstood, misused, neglected, suspicious, or afraid, you are spending. You are taking the coin of heaven and flinging it into the gutter of limitation. You are squandering the only substance that can ever build the mansion of your desire. Stop. Right now. Turn from that waste.

Instead, assume the feeling of being what you want to be. Feel yourself already there. Let your inner words match that assumption. Speak to yourself as one who already possesses the thing desired. Let every silent sentence confirm it. This is investing. This is laying out your thought for a purpose from which profit—certain, inevitable profit—must come. The moment you do this you have matched your inner speech to fulfilled desire, and inner speech always objectifies itself. It never fails. It may seem slow to the outer eye, but it moves with the certainty of law.

The present moment is always precisely right for an investment. The word is very near to you, in your mouth and in your heart, that you may do it. See, I have set before you this day life and good, death and evil, blessing and cursing. Choose life. Choose the good report. Choose the inner conversation that already celebrates the wish fulfilled. Do not wait for tomorrow’s conditions to improve before you invest. The improvement you seek is born only from the investment you make now.

Man’s ignorance of his future is simply his ignorance of his own inner talking. His inner talking mirrors his imagination, and imagination is the government in which the opposition never comes into power. You are the sole ruler of that government. You decide what shall be spoken there. If you continue to speak from the premise of lack, of delay, of limitation, then lack, delay, and limitation will confront you tomorrow exactly as they confront you today—only more solidly established. But if you speak now from the premise of fulfillment, then fulfillment must appear, for the word cannot return empty.

You cannot abandon the moment to negative inner talking and still retain command of your life. Before you go the results of all that seemingly lies behind. Not gone is the last moment—it is oncoming. Therefore be more interested in what you are inwardly saying now than in what you have said in the past. The past has no power except what you give it by remembering it with feeling. Withdraw that feeling. Let the old conversation die. Let a new conversation be born this night.

Whenever inner speech and outer desire are in conflict, inner speech invariably wins. Because it objectifies itself. Because it is the son of your own mind, and life is the union of word and mind. Therefore let your inner speech be the perfect image of your desire. Let it be so natural, so habitual, that you no longer have to remind yourself to speak it. Let it become the automatic, effortless conversation of the new man you are becoming.

You who feel you have done everything right and still see no results—hear me. You have been doing the outer things right while the inner conversation remained in the old state. You have been spending the coin while believing you were saving it. The outer labor without the inner investment is like sowing seed upon rock. Nothing can grow. But when you match the inner word to the desire, the seed falls into prepared soil and the harvest is certain.

The tongue sets on fire the course of nature. Let your tongue—your inner tongue—set on fire the course of your desire. Speak the word of fulfillment. Speak it now. Speak it with the quiet certainty that it is already so. For the mouth of God is the mind of man. Feed God only the best. Whatsoever things are of good report, think on these things. Let your inner conversation be that good report.

Every moment must be invested. There is no neutral ground. You are either investing or spending. Choose, therefore, this day whom you will serve. Serve the vision. Serve the fulfillment. Serve the reality that already exists within you. For what you want to be is already existent. You do not create it; you enter it by assuming the feeling of the wish fulfilled and by letting your inner speech bear witness to that assumption.

The circumstances of life are the muffled utterances of the inner talking that made them—the word made visible. Therefore let the word you speak within yourself be the word of life. Let it be the word of abundance. Let it be the word of health, of harmony, of success in every form you desire. And let it be spoken with the calm authority of one who knows that the word cannot fail.

You who have felt the weight of frustration, who have wondered why the door seems locked though you knock with sincerity—turn now to the coin of heaven. Invest it wisely. Stop the waste. The moment you do, the door swings open of itself. Not because of any outer change, but because the inner speech has been changed, and the outer world must follow.

The present moment advances into the future to confront you, spent or invested. Tonight, in this very hour, decide what shall confront you tomorrow. Decide by what you are willing to speak within yourself. Decide by the conversation you will permit to occupy the throne of your imagination.

Thought is the coin of heaven. Spend it no more. Invest it now in the full realization of your dream. Speak the word of its fulfillment. Feel the joy of its accomplishment. Walk in the quiet certainty that the investment has already been made and the return is on its way.

You are the master of this currency. No one can take it from you. No condition can rob you of it. You alone decide how it shall be used. Use it tonight as the wise investor uses his treasure. Place it where it must multiply. Place it in the feeling of the wish fulfilled. Place it in the inner conversation that already celebrates victory.

And when tomorrow comes—and it will come swiftly—you will meet your own investment face to face. It will not be strange to you. It will be exactly what you spoke it to be. For you have chosen life. You have chosen the good. You have chosen the blessing.

This is the great secret. This is the coin of heaven placed in your hand. Use it. Invest it. And watch your world transform itself before your eyes—not by struggle, not by force, but by the quiet, inevitable power of the word you have spoken within.

The word is very near to you. Speak it now. Let your inner talking be the perfect image of your desire fulfilled. Let every moment be an investment. And you will know, beyond all doubt, that thought is indeed the coin of heaven, and that you, its rightful owner, have at last learned how to spend it wisely.
