Consciousness Creates Reality

A Lecture in the Voice and Spirit of Neville Goddard

You look upon your circumstances tonight and you call them hard, unyielding facts. You believe the world outside you is the cause of what you experience. You feel its pressures, its limitations, its disappointments, and you accept them as real, as final, as something that has power over you. But I tell you a truth that will free you completely if you will hear it and accept it: consciousness creates reality. Your world in its every detail is your consciousness made visible. Nothing has ever appeared in your life except what you have been conscious of being. Change your consciousness and you change your world.

Man has always decreed that which has appeared in his world. He is today decreeing that which is appearing in his world and he shall continue to do so as long as man is conscious of being man. Not one thing has ever appeared in man’s world but what man decreed that it should. This you may deny, but try as you will you cannot disprove it, for this decreeing is based upon a changeless principle.

Decreeing is ever done in consciousness. That is, every man is conscious of being that which he has decreed himself to be. The man who feels himself poor is conscious of being poor and so poverty appears. The man who feels himself limited is conscious of being limited and limitation is out-pictured. You are at this very moment drawing into your world that which you are now conscious of being. Your consciousness is the only reality. Things have no reality other than in consciousness. Get the consciousness first and the thing is compelled to appear.

Consciousness is God. Your awareness of being is the Lord, the creator of all. “I AM” is the name by which God revealed Himself, and you are that awareness. You are conscious of being something tonight, and that something is the cause of everything you see and experience. There is no other cause. There is no other power. The world you see is your consciousness objectified. Man is ever out-picturing that which he is conscious of being. This is the truth that makes man free, for man is always self-imprisoned or self-freed by his own consciousness.

You do not create by words spoken aloud. You do not create by repeating affirmations. Such things are often nothing more than a confession of doubt. Creation is in consciousness alone. You are conscious of being healthy or you are conscious of being ill. You are conscious of being wealthy or you are conscious of being in lack. You are conscious of being loved or you are conscious of being rejected. Whatever you are conscious of being, that you out-picture. Your world is the mirror of your consciousness. It has no power of its own. It can only reflect what you have first established within yourself.

The awareness of being as God is the door through which all manifestations pass into the world of form. Consciousness is the resurrecting power, resurrecting that which man is conscious of being. You are ever the operant power. Nothing comes to you from without. Everything comes from within, from your own consciousness. You are drawing into your world that which you are now conscious of being. This is not a theory. This is not a philosophy to be debated. This is the changeless law of your being.

When you read the Scriptures in this light, you will discover that they are speaking only of this truth. Moses knew it when he said “I AM hath sent me unto you.” David knew it when he sang “Be still and know that I AM God.” Isaiah knew it when he declared “I AM the Lord and there is none else.” Jesus knew it when he said “I AM the way, the truth, and the life.” They were not speaking of a God apart from man. They were speaking of your own awareness of being. They were telling you that the consciousness you are conscious of being is the only God there is. Claim it as your own and you transform your world.

You are one with your present conception of yourself. But you are greater than that conception. Before you are conscious of being anything in particular, you are first conscious of being. That pure awareness is the father. The state you are conscious of being is the son bearing witness of the father. You cannot serve two masters. You cannot be conscious of two opposite states at the same time. You are either conscious of lack or conscious of abundance. You are either conscious of limitation or conscious of freedom. Choose this night what you will be conscious of being, and that you shall out-picture.

To change your world you must change your consciousness. There is no other way. Your environment and all within it reflect that which you are in consciousness. You cannot change the mirror by breaking it. You change the image by changing the consciousness that is reflecting it. Your world in its every detail is your consciousness out-pictured. As long as you remain conscious of being what you are now, so long will you continue to out-picture it. To rise to a new level you must leave behind the old conception of yourself. You must take your attention away from the problem, away from the limitation, away from the appearance, and dwell in the consciousness of the thing desired as already real.

You are now conscious of being. Feel yourself to be that which you desire to be. Do not think about it. Feel it. Become it in consciousness. Let the feeling of the wish fulfilled absorb you completely until it feels natural, until it feels like the truth of your being. In that state of consciousness the thing desired is already yours. It must appear, for consciousness creates reality. Man is ever out-picturing that which he is conscious of being. Dwell in the consciousness of the wish fulfilled and the wish must fulfill itself in your world.

Do not ask how it will come to pass. No man knows the way. Consciousness has ways that you know not of. Its ways are past finding out. Your only concern is to be conscious of being the thing desired. Get the consciousness first. Assume the feeling of the wish fulfilled. Live in that assumption. Walk in it. Sleep in it. Wake in it. Let it become the natural state of your consciousness. Then you will see the evidence of your assumption appear in your world, for your world is nothing but your consciousness objectified.

You are at this very moment drawing into your world that which you are now conscious of being. If you are dissatisfied with what you see, do not fight the appearance. Do not struggle with the condition. Turn your attention inward. Rise in consciousness to the level of the desired state. Become conscious of being that which you want to see manifested. Do not condition it. Do not put a time upon it. Do not wonder how or when. Simply be conscious of being it now. That is all. Consciousness creates reality. It does so instantly and effortlessly when you remain in the new state.

The senses will still show you the old world for a little while. They will try to persuade you that nothing has changed. But you do not judge by the senses. You judge by consciousness. The senses report only what you were conscious of being in the past. Ignore them. Persist in the new consciousness. Persist in the feeling that it is done. Persist until the new consciousness becomes natural to you. Then the senses will be forced to confirm it, for they can only reflect what you are conscious of being.

You are the Lord. You are the operant power. Nothing can stay your hand. You are the awareness in which all things begin and end. Before the world was, you are. When the world shall cease to be, you are. You are the vine and all the states of consciousness are the branches. Whatever you are conscious of being is fed and sustained by your awareness. Withdraw your consciousness from any state and it withers and dies in your world. Dwell in a new state and it springs to life.

This is the great secret. This is the pearl of great price. Consciousness creates reality. Your awareness of being is the cause of everything that appears in your life. You have no one to change but self. You have no one to blame but self. You have no one to thank but self. For you are the only cause. You are the only reality. Change your consciousness and you change your world. There is no other way.

Tonight, take your attention away from everything that seems so real to the senses. Close your eyes to the evidence of the outer world. Feel yourself to be that which you desire to be. Feel it with all the intensity of your being. Let the feeling swallow you up. Let it become so real to you that the outer world fades away. In that moment you are conscious of being the new state, and that new state must appear, for consciousness creates reality.

Do not return to the old consciousness tomorrow. Do not take back the old feeling. Do not let the old conception of yourself reassert itself. Guard your consciousness as the only treasure you possess. Keep it fixed on the new state. Live from it. Act from it. Speak from it. Sleep in it. Wake in it. Let every moment of the day be filled with the consciousness of the wish fulfilled. Then you will see your world transform itself without effort, without struggle, without delay. For man is ever out-picturing that which he is conscious of being.

You are the creator. You have always been the creator. You did not know it, but you are now awakening to it. You are awakening to the truth that consciousness creates reality. You are awakening to the truth that your awareness of being is God. You are awakening to the truth that you and your Father are one. The Father is your consciousness. The son is the state you are conscious of being. When you become conscious of being the desired state, you and the Father are one, and the manifestation must follow.

There is nothing to fight. There is nothing to overcome. There is only consciousness to change. You do not have to make the thing happen. You only have to be conscious of it as already happening. You only have to feel it as already true. You only have to dwell in the consciousness of the wish fulfilled until it feels natural. Then it will objectify itself, for your world is your consciousness out-pictured.

You are drawing into your world that which you are now conscious of being. Choose this night what you will be conscious of being. Choose it deliberately. Choose it with feeling. Choose it with conviction. And then remain in that choice. Do not waver. Do not doubt. Do not return to the old state. Stay in the new consciousness and the new world must appear. Consciousness creates reality. It has always done so. It will always do so. You are the proof of it tonight.

The man who feels himself to be free is free. The man who feels himself to be wealthy is wealthy. The man who feels himself to be healthy is healthy. The man who feels himself to be loved is loved. Feeling is the secret, because feeling is consciousness in action. What you feel, you are conscious of being. What you are conscious of being, you out-picture. Change the feeling and you change the world.

Tonight you can rise in consciousness. Tonight you can assume the feeling of the wish fulfilled. Tonight you can become conscious of being that which you want to be. And tomorrow you will see the evidence of it, because consciousness creates reality. You do not have to wait for tomorrow to begin. Begin now. Begin this very moment. Close your eyes to the old world. Open your consciousness to the new. Feel it. Be it. Live in it. And the world will conform to your new consciousness.

You are not the victim of circumstance. You are the creator of circumstance. You are not the product of your environment. Your environment is the product of your consciousness. You are not limited by anything outside yourself. Nothing outside yourself has any power over you. The only power is within you. The only reality is your consciousness. Awaken to this and you awaken to freedom. Awaken to this and you awaken to power. Awaken to this and you awaken to the truth that consciousness creates reality.

You have tried everything else. You have struggled, you have prayed, you have hoped, you have wished. Now try this. Try the simple truth. Try the changeless principle. Be conscious of being the thing desired. Dwell in that consciousness. Persist in that consciousness. And you will see the thing desired appear, for man is ever out-picturing that which he is conscious of being.

This is not something to believe. This is something to know. This is not something to hope for. This is something to experience. This is the truth of your being. You are the awareness of being. You are the consciousness that creates. You are the Lord of your world. Claim it now. Live from it now. Be it now. And your world will reflect it perfectly, because consciousness creates reality.

You are at this very moment drawing into your world that which you are now conscious of being. Make that consciousness one of perfection, one of fulfillment, one of joy, one of peace, one of abundance. Make it the consciousness of the wish fulfilled. And watch your world transform itself before your eyes. There is no power that can stop it. There is no circumstance that can prevent it. There is no person that can hinder it. Consciousness creates reality, and your consciousness is the only reality there is.

Tonight, as you close your eyes to sleep, do not carry the old consciousness with you. Carry the new. Feel yourself to be that which you desire to be. Feel it deeply. Feel it naturally. Feel it as the truth of your being. Sleep in that consciousness. Wake in that consciousness. Live in that consciousness. And the outer world must conform, because your world is your consciousness objectified.

You are the beginning and the end. You are the alpha and the omega of your world. Before any condition was, you are. After any condition passes, you are. You are the eternal awareness in which all things appear and disappear. You are the Lord. You are the creator. You are the one who decrees, and it is established unto you. Decree it now in consciousness. Decree it by being conscious of it as true. And it shall come to pass, for consciousness creates reality.

This is the great revelation. This is the pearl of great price. This is the kingdom of heaven within you. This is the truth that sets you free. Accept it tonight. Live it tonight. Be it tonight. And you will never again be the same, because you will know beyond all doubt that consciousness creates reality.

Your world is waiting for your new consciousness. Your circumstances are waiting for your new consciousness. Your body is waiting for your new consciousness. Your relationships are waiting for your new consciousness. Everything in your life is waiting to reflect the new state you are conscious of being. Give it that state. Give it that consciousness. Give it that feeling of fulfillment. And everything will rearrange itself to confirm what you have accepted as true within yourself.

You do not have to make anything happen. You only have to be conscious of it as already done. You only have to feel it as already true. You only have to dwell in the consciousness of the wish fulfilled until it becomes the natural state of your being. Then it will appear, suddenly, naturally, inevitably, because consciousness creates reality.

This is the law. This is the principle. This is the truth. You have always been operating it, even when you did not know it. You are operating it now. You will operate it forever. Know it. Use it. Live it. And your life will become the perfect out-picturing of your perfect consciousness.

You are the Lord. You are the awareness of being. You are the creator of your world. Tonight you can claim any state you desire. Tonight you can become conscious of being anything you desire. Tonight you can rise in consciousness to the level of the wish fulfilled. Do it. Do it now. And tomorrow you will see the evidence of it, because man is ever out-picturing that which he is conscious of being, and consciousness creates reality.

Let this truth sink deep into your being. Let it become the foundation of your life. Let it become the only thought you entertain. Consciousness creates reality. Your consciousness creates your reality. You are the consciousness. You are the reality. You are the creator. You are the created. You are all in all.

Sleep in this consciousness tonight. Wake in this consciousness tomorrow. Live in this consciousness every moment of every day. And your world will be transformed, for consciousness creates reality.

This is my message to you tonight. This is the only message worth hearing. This is the truth that will set you free. Hear it. Accept it. Live it. And you will know beyond all question that consciousness creates reality.
